Schizophrenia is a brain disorder that can affect everybody regardless of age, gender, and social status. It was first identified as a mental illness by Dr. Emile Kraepelin in 1887. Traditionally, it was regarded as an abnormality and was treated using traditional ways, such as exorcism, magic, music play, and skull drilling. Numerous researches by different professionals, such as Eugen Bleuler, identified it as a brain disorder and classified it into various types: disorganized, catatonic, paranoid, and differential. Presently, various modern treatment methods are applied to reduce the effects of its symptoms.
Schizophrenia has been classified as madness both traditionally and presently. Many people with the disease in the society are isolated or taken to mental hospitals for treatment with people not aware that it is schizophrenia. In addition, most families believe that the disease is incurable and normally leave the patients to suffer and die.
